In partnership with MAPEI (adhesives and sealing agents), TUSCAN Levelling System (installation systems) and Profilitec (profiles for floors).
The substrates for the installation of LINEA slim thickness porcelain stoneware must be suitable to receive loads and withstand stresses, they must also be perfectly flat and clean of any removable part (dust, grease, varnish, etc.) which otherwise may compromise adhesion. This is why Atlas Concorde suggests avoiding installation of LINEA directly onto the footing.
LINEA slim thickness slabs are ideal for renovation works where pre-existing floors are to be over tiled. In fact there is no need to demolish pre-existing surfaces onto which LINEA products will be directly applied.
CHECK OF CONDITIONS OF PRE-EXISTING SUPPORT
Before installing the slim thickness slabs onto a floor, Atlas Concorde strongly recommends carrying out a preliminary check of the conditions of pre-existing floors.
Ceramic material, natural stones and marble
In the case of ceramic floors, marble, natural stone or any other stony material it is necessary to check that the pre-existing material perfectly adheres to the footing and shows no cracking or detachment. Otherwise, it will therefore be necessary to:
– Remove the tiles which show detaching and/or cracking and any possible cracking on the footing underneath, which should be enlarged and subsequently sealed again by the application of epoxy resin adhesives
– Fill in the hollows formed by the tiles removal and any junction between adjacent floor tiling which show different height levels with quick-setting cement based levelling mortar
– Adjust any planarity imperfection by using self-levelling mortars.
Once the above operations have been carried out and before installing LINEA slim thickness slabs, the surface must be cleaned with a solution of hot water and 10% caustic soda and carefully rinsed to make sure any dirt or varnish and/or marble polishing is removed.
Wood, linoleum, rubber and PVC
In the case of pre-existing floors in wood, resin, rubber and the like make sure the existing flooring is tightly anchored and offers a steady installation surface. Such supports must be cleaned from any dirt residue, varnish stains, degreased from fat, oil and any other agent which may compromise the adhesion of LINEA slim thickness slabs.
In the case of pre-existing parquet floor, the surface must be carefully sanded down to the raw wood of the parquet wooden flooring.
For these kinds of flooring too, any imperfection of the substrate is to be removed using specialized levelling products.

Before proceeding with the installation of LINEA slim thickness slabs, the most suitable adhesive must be chosen depending on the destination of use, on the pre-existing floor features, on the size of the slabs used and on the time lapse available between installation and exposure to foot traffic. Installation may be carried out afterwards.
– Clean LINEA tiles with water only if necessary (presence of dust).
– Apply the adhesive using a round-teeth trowel (teeth 5x7mm at 60°). In order to obtain perfect adhesion, spread a thin layer of adhesive on the wall using the smooth side of the trowel first, and then apply the other layer of adhesive using the toothed part of the trowel.
– Apply the adhesive onto the back of LINEA slabs thus avoiding the formation of gaps between the pre-existing floor and the ceramic covering that can then cause cracking or detachment of tiles
Apply the slim thickness slab to the pre-existing floor in order to have a perfect adhesion and levelling. Atlas Concorde recommends to use a rubber trowel (or two suction cups for large size tiles) and then proceed with an homogeneous tapping of the surface avoiding the use of rubber hammering tools.
Depending on sizes used different grout-lines should be allowed.
– Minimum 2 mm grout line with single–size tiles.
– Minimum 3 mm grout line with multi-size-tiles.
– In case of staggered installation, the slabs must be staggered of maximum 1/3 the length of the long side (20 cm for the 30×60 cm; 40 cm for the 60×120 and 30×120 cm).
For floor installation of the slim LINEA slabs, Atlas Concorde recommends to use the TUSCAN LEVELLING SYSTEM, which:
– Allows easy elimination of uneven levels between adjacent slabs;
– Keeps the slab in the desired position;
– Reduces installation times.

Provided that the choice for the adequate grouting agent depends on the destination of use of the environment to be tiled, Atlas Concorde recommends carrying out grouting of joints using specific fine-granulometry coloured products. In fact, compared to sand and cement grouts, these products offer many advantages such as:
– Possibility to have the same colour of the ceramic covering;
– The grout line is less porous therefore it does not retain dirt;
– Perfect grouting with no uneven levels.
Regardless of the grouting agent used, Atlas Concorde recommends carrying out grouting after 3-4 hours of installation when using quick-setting adhesives, if using standard setting adhesives, grouting must be carried out 24 hours after installation.

JOINTS AND SEALING
During installation, make sure to keep all the expansion joints existing on the substrate and to leave at least 5mm distance from walls, pillars, posts, angles, corners, etc.
To fill in the splitting joints between the slim LINEA slabs use a silicone sealant, or in light commercial areas we suggest the use of a polyurethane sealant.
Alternatively, ready-made extremely elastic joints can be used.
For skirting, Atlas Concorde recommends using the Profiltec solutions that allow for a minimum aluminium profile placed at the junction between the wall and the floor. The special section of these profiles allows for the joint of the wall covering and the floor to maintain an adequate expansion joint. The protruding winglet of the profile permits the total covering of perimeter joints and allows for an adequate expansion space of the floor.
