BENDING STRENGTH R (FLEXURAL MODULUS OF RUPTURE)
A branch of architecture that uses low environmental impact materials thus reducing the chemical-physical and electro-magnetic pollution.
Bio-architecture examines every single possible method and measure to prevent and avoid damage to the eco-system, the risks to physical and mental health of people living in a building (from the people who are building it to the people who will eventually end up using it) and in general, it considers the relationship with the local, regional and global environment.
Its adoption is particularly prevalent in Europe, North America and Australia.
Atlas Concorde entire product range, from porcelain stoneware floors to white-body wall cladding, is Ecolabel certified.

BREAKAGE LOAD F
BREAKING EFFORT S
The term Brushed refers to a type of surface finish available for some Atlas Concorde ceramic products and obtained using rotating brushes onto the ceramic surface to create a soft and compact effect.
BULK MECHANICAL FEATURES (ISO 10545-4)
These features concern the resistance to loads (for example the weight of people, of furniture, of means of transport on a floor) that the tiles surface must withstand.
They are called “bulk mechanical” features since they concern the whole tile and in order to distinguish them from “surface” features, which concern only the working surface of the tile.
The bulk mechanical features detected on tiles are:
• BENDING STRENGTH R (FLEXURAL MODULUS OF RUPTURE):
this is a feature of the ceramic material that constitutes the tile and it indicates the maximum tension that a sample material, subjected to an increasing stress from being bent under specific conditions and with specific procedures, can withstand before breaking;
it is a feature of the material that makes up the tile (therefore it provides only a measure of the inner cohesion and does not directly define any mechanical performance of the tile) and in general it is inversely proportional to the level of water absorption.
• BREAKAGE LOAD F:
is the point at which a load, when applied on a tile, under specific conditions and procedures, makes the tested tile break. As its definition indicates, the breakage load is a performance feature of the tile.
• BREAKING EFFORT S:
parameter introduced by the regulations in force, it can be defined as a “calculated breaking strength” allowing for a correct estimate of the bulk mechanical features of the tile regardless of its geometrical shape (this way the performance of square tiles and rectangular tiles can be compared) and for which it is possible to define a limit-value (requirement) complying with the product standard.
Having calculated BREAKAGE LOAD F, it is possible to obtain BREAKING EFFORT S (expressed in N) and BENDING STRENGTH R (expressed in by N/mm²) via mathematic calculations.
ATLAS CONCORDE porcelain stoneware is, among the various ceramic tiles, the material that has the highest bending strength.
