HANDLING AND PROCESSING

Thanks to its lightness and lower packaging encumbrance, LINEA slim thickness slabs by Atlas Concorde are easy to transport and more comfortable to move about the building site. There is no need for special care to be taken other than the care commonly paid to standard tiles in porcelain stoneware.
Even while working and during installation, the use of LINEA slabs does not imply a harder job compared to traditional porcelain stoneware tiles. LINEA slabs require the same tools and standard techniques normally used for the installation of porcelain stoneware.

PROCESSING
In co-operation with RUBI, a leading company in the field of tools for ceramic tiling.

CUTTING
LINEA slim thickness slabs are as to cut both linearly and diagonally as any other porcelain stoneware tile made by Atlas Concorde.
When performing linear cuts the use of manual dry tile cutters with adjustable wheel guard and variable diameter may be better according to surfaces. On smooth matt surfaces the use of a 22mm wheel is recommended; a 18 mm diameter may be better for more taxing textured materials.

Any precision cut should be carried out manually with the use of tile pincers for porcelain stoneware or special shard material pincers.

In cases when it is preferable to avoid e manual cutting, the following tools can be used:

  • Dry tile grinder with suitable continuous turbo diamond blade;
  • Continuous electric tile cutter with diamond blade cooler working either with water pump or submersion.

In both cases for successful diamond sawing never forget to check the rotation speed which needs to be kept high (above 2500 rotations/minute) and the feeding speed which, in contrast, should be slow (lower than a meter/minute).

DRILLING
Circular drilling of LINEA slim thickness slabs may be carried out both before and after installation by using standard electric drills with a diamond drill bit.

In cases of product already installed, as for example while applying accessories on porcelain stoneware, Atlas Concorde suggests changeable diamond drills supplied with suction cups to make perfectly vertical holes and avoid slipping of the drill from drilling spot.

An alternative more economically viable method may be obtained by using electroplated diamond drills.
Regardless of the choice of either of the above methods the use of a percussion drill is to be strictly avoided and the surface should be kept cool with water on the drilling spot. Rotating drills should be kept at a speed ranging from between 400 and 1000 rotations/minute.

When making quadrangular holes, the use of the following tools is recommended:

  • Dry tile grinder with suitable continuous turbo diamond blade;
  • Continuous electric tile cutter with diamond blade cooler working either with water pump or submersion.

When necessary it is also possible to combine the action of a diamond drill (when beginning drilling operations) with a dry tile grinder (to get rid of the uneven edges inside the hole).

Once drilled, the LINEA slim thickness slabs must rest for a suitable period of time (about 2 hours) before proceeding with installation to allow any structural adjustment of the ceramic material.
