C70, Rome 3D parametric ceramics by Atlas Concorde and OneWorks

In Rome, along the strategic axis of Via Cristoforo Colombo—between the historic city center and the EUR district—the redevelopment of the C70 office complex is nearing completion. This project transforms two 1960s office buildings into a unified campus featuring a 13,000-square-meter façade.

Designed by the international firm OneWorks for Quinta Capital SGR, the project tasks Atlas Concorde with developing a bespoke 3D parametric ceramic system, engineered to respond precisely to the existing building's irregular geometry. Three key elements define the project: • Custom 3D ceramic elements in five distinct geometries, developed specifically for the building • An iridescent, semi-reflective surface that enhances the façade's performance • Sustainable retrofit: regeneration of the existing building envelope with the aim of achieving LEED v4 certification

A bespoke ceramic skin for an existing building At the heart of the project lies a façade system developed specifically for C70: porcelain stoneware elements crafted in five different geometries, designed to fit the complex, irregular pre-existing structure with millimetric precision. Each piece addresses the building's misalignments and irregularities without masking them; instead, it highlights them through a contemporary lens, lending the façade depth, rhythm, and a dynamic quality in its interplay with natural light and various urban viewpoints.

From Surface to Performance The three-dimensional nature of the ceramic is not merely an aesthetic feature; the surface configuration contributes to the building's energy performance, optimizing its interaction with natural light throughout the year. This is a key aspect of a project targeting LEED v4 certification and part of broader research conducted by Atlas Concorde and OneWorks into the use of ceramics for building envelopes—work also showcased at Salone del Mobile.Milano 2026 alongside the Via del Serafico residential project, also located in Rome.
