Niu New Residence Hall

Established in 1895, and having evolved through over a century of history, the NIU – Northern Illinois University boasts a long tradition in education and training.

The university centre covers a large area which includes large areas for sports activities, student residences, as well as canteens and buildings dedicated to teaching.

In August 2012, renovation work managed by Federick "Derick" Miller Design in collaboration with the firm HKM Architecture was completed; the work, involved, among other things, the replacement of floor and wall coverings of certain internal areas of the University such as the cafeteria, reception, showers and changing rooms. The work involved a surface of 5,000 square metres (60,000 sqft) for which Atlas Concorde supplied its products: the white-body wall tiles View, in the colours White and Grey, for the walls of the cafeteria; the wood and precious fabric elements of the porcelain stoneware products Doga and Fibra characterize the reception areas with the warm Cocoa (Doga) and the Canvas (Fibra) shades; Unit, in the Ivory colour, covers the shower and changing room areas.
