Hyatt Regency Zadar

An oasis of Mediterranean sophistication featuring Atlas Concorde surfaces

In the heart of Croatia’s Adriatic coast, the Hyatt Regency Zadar is a premier destination for five-star accommodation: a place where contemporary hospitality and Mediterranean charm intertwine in a sophisticated yet welcoming design language. At the heart of the project lies the conservation-focused transformation of the historic Maraska factory, also the residence of the Luxardo family, an iconic landmark deeply rooted in the collective memory of the people of Zadar. The aim was to bridge the city’s industrial past with a future that aspires to make it one of the world’s leading destinations for luxury travel. For this prestigious hotel, part of the Hyatt Group, the Viennese architectural firm Podrecca Architects and the British interior design studio DeSallesFlint selected Atlas Concorde’s porcelain stoneware surfaces, opting for materials capable of combining high technical performance with uncompromising aesthetic beauty in every setting.

Atakan Turkoglu, project manager and construction coordinator at Dogus Group – the Istanbul-based investor behind the Hyatt Regency Zadar – describes the collaboration with Atlas Concorde as “a partner capable of offering high-quality, comprehensive solutions, as well as the technical support required for a project of this scale”.

Materials and sensory experience

The marble-effect and stone-effect porcelain stoneware selected for both indoor and outdoor spaces combine to create a refined sensory experience, ensuring elegance and luxury whilst maintaining the performance standards required for a hospitality venue of this calibre.

“The Atlas Concorde collections have integrated perfectly, evoking natural elements – marble and stone – synonymous with Mediterranean luxury. In particular, the possibility offered by these collections to present different finishes has allowed us to maintain a consistent visual language throughout the hotel, whilst meeting the specific functional requirements of each space,” explains Atakan Turkoglu. The Marvel Shine marble-effect collection takes centre stage in the 133 rooms and bathrooms, where elegant veining and meticulous finishes interact with natural light.

The glossy, luminous finish and realistic veining of Marvel Shine create a serene and airy atmosphere, helping to impart a sense of homely warmth and ensuring the sensory comfort of the guest experience,” continues Atakan Turkoglu.

In reception areas, such as the lobby and restaurant, the choice falls on Boost Stone, a stone-effect porcelain stoneware with a refined and contemporary character, capable of withstanding the high footfall typical of hospitality spaces. Atakan Turkoglu explains: “The stone effect was chosen to create a natural, welcoming base that harmonises with the Mediterranean light. This creates an atmosphere that combines substance with sophistication, seamlessly blending historic architecture with modern hospitality.” For outdoor spaces, Boost Mineral blends in naturally, thanks to its neutral tones and deep textures that reinforce the visual and tactile continuity of the spaces, enhancing the overall perception of quality and durability.

Porcelain stoneware was an essential choice in this case, thanks to its resistance to moisture and salt spray. The stone-effect finish with anti-slip properties guarantees excellent slip resistance, ensuring safety in the pool and spa areas, whilst maintaining a natural aesthetic in harmony with the Zadar coastline”.

The choice of materials

The project at the Hyatt Regency Zadar confirms that Atlas Concorde surfaces are not merely coverings, but key components of a design where aesthetics, functionality and atmosphere coexist naturally, helping to create memorable spaces for every guest.

The Hyatt Group’s decision to use porcelain stoneware as the ideal solution, compliant with Hyatt’s rigorous global standards, was decisive, offering “the aesthetic prestige of natural materials with the durability and hygiene required for a high-traffic luxury hotel environment” Atakan Turkoglu, Dogus Group

The Hyatt Regency Zadar is a perfect example of how innovative design and high-quality ceramic surfaces can transform an architectural project into a unique experience.
